Elon Musk has finished building the world’s biggest battery in less than 100 days

Elon Musk looks to have delivered on his promise to build the biggest lithium ion battery in the world in an effort to help South Australia with its crippling energy problems. “100 days from contract signature or it’s free,” Musk tweeted at the time, in a deal initially negotiated over Twitter. Musk is well ahead of schedule (a rarity for Tesla!), with the 100MW battery set to be energised and tested in the coming days, according to a press release from the local state government.

CEO of Tesla says humanity is currently running ‘the dumbest experiment in history

Elon Musk said in an interview earlier this year people are running “the dumbest experiment in history” by continuing to burn fossil fuels As Musk explained:

Costa Rica has run on only renewable energy so far this year

Costa Rica has managed to produce all of its electricity from renewables for 75 days straight.  The country hasn’t had to burn fossil fuels to supply the grid with electricity so far in 2015, a stretch that has never been previously attained by any nation, according to the state-owned Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE).   Continue reading… “Costa Rica has run on only renewable energy so far this year”

A new kind of battery that stores energy from solar and wind power cheaply and cleanly has hit the market. It is by far the cheapest of a new generation of large, long-lived batteries that could make it possible to rely heavily on intermittent, renewable energy sources.
