Pranksters Dye River in Canada Bright Fluorescent Green

Last week, pranksters dyed the Goldstream River on Vancouver Island bright green using the dye fluorescein. Apparently the river was so bright that it was painful to look at. Here’s footage of this roiling ectoplasmic channel.  (video)

Underwater Turbines Could Harness a Massive Amount of Energy from the Mississippi

Underwater turbines could tap the Mississipi’s power.

Tens of thousands of turbines anchored to the bottom of the Mississippi River could someday provide more than a gigawatt of renewable energy, enough to power a quarter of a million homes. That’s the vision of Free Flow Power, a startup based in Gloucester, Massachusetts, that recently received preliminary permits from the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) granting it the right to explore energy production at dozens of sites along the lower Mississippi over the next three years.

Archaeologists Find 8,000-Year-Old Home Near Tel Aviv

Israeli archaeologists have found remains of an 8,000-year-old building as well as hippopotamus bones and pottery shards in the Tel Aviv area, the Israel Antiquities Authority said on Monday.
 

 
“For the first time we have encountered evidence of a permanent habitation that existed in the Tel Aviv region about 8,000 years ago.”

That places it in the Neolithic period when man went from a nomadic existence to living in permanent settlements.
