Right now the best solar cells we have convert less than a third of the energy on sunlight into electricity, even though for decades researchers have calculated that exotic physics could allow solar cells to convert far more energy than they do now.

Sharp has announced plans to produce a new type of screen dubbed ‘Free-Form Display’ that could radically change the shape of our future electronics. In recent years there has been a number of products with novel form factors, like the curved Samsung Gear Fit and the upcoming circular Moto 360 smartwatch. Nissan’s Intelligent Key technology already comes standard in most of its vehicles, but incorporating the function into a cell phone pushes the boundaries of what Japanese multi-function phones can do. The wireless controller has the ability to lock or unlock a car, as well as start or stop the car’s engine.

Solar-Powered TV By Sharp Unveiled 

 Sharp´s 26-inch low-power TV prototype paired with a solar module.

For the 1.6 billion people living in areas without utility-supplied electricity, Sharp has designed a TV that can get 100% of its power from the sun. The company plans to exhibit the 26-inch LCD prototype at the Hokkaido Toyako Summit, or G8 Summit, in Hokkaido, Japan, on July 7-9.

Microsoft Brand In Sharp Decline

A recent poll of about 12,000 US business decision-makers by market researcher CoreBrand found that Microsoft’s brand power has taken a dive over the past four years. According to the study, Microsoft dropped from number 12 in the ranking of the most powerful US company brands in 2004 to number 59 last year. In 1996, the company ranked number 1 in brand power among 1,200 top companies in about 50 industries.
