2D/3D Chairs

When you peek inside the windows of the Issey Miyake store in Tokyo, and you’ll think you’re looking at a room full of blue chairs. But that’s where you’d be wrong! The white floor only has blue chair backs popping out of the floor, the rest of the chair, the seats and legs, have been painted on the ground!  (Pics)

Japanese architect Yoichi Yamamoto created this mind-bending illusion which only snaps into place when you’re standing at just the right angle. “If you look at the installation from one point in front of the shop window, the back of the chairs, which are three-dimensional objects, and the legs of the chairs, which are two-dimensional drawings, meet and create a single figure,” says Yamamoto on his website. Notice how he cleverly hangs the hats on the chair backs.
