Featured invention at the DaVinci Inventor Showcase 2011
The Track It is a GPS (Global Positioning System) driven locator unit that comes with corresponding chips that allow you to track items/things of importance. Design intent is to provide a convenient handheld portable unit that easily locates items frequently misplaced or lost, saving the consumer time and frustration.
The Track It consists of a handheld unit (similar in appearance to a cellular phone, particularly in size) and corresponding locator chips. These locator tracking buttons can vary in size dependent upon the object to be tracked. The handheld unit will measure approximately 3 inches in length, two inches in width, and ½ inch in depth. The Track -It will be comprised of plastic, metal, circuitry board, a rechargeable battery and an LCD screen handheld unit.
- The Track It device would come with 5 chips. Each of the chip’s undersides would be coated with a heavy duty adhesive fastener for use in easily attaching the chips to the items intended to be tracked. For practical purposes, this adhesive would be coated with a protective peel away paper backing to be removed prior to installation. For additional items, supplemental chips in packs of 5 could be purchased. Each chip would be designated an item by the user, for example; Chip#1- Car keys, Chip#2-Dog Collar, and so on. Each chip and item to be located would be programmed into the Track-It’s main unit. To facilitate this process, an alphanumeric keyboard could be integrated into the main unit or the user could choose from a large variety of pre-programmed items which are commonly misplaced. The unit’s face will resemble a TV remote control in it’s basic appearance. The center button would be an ”OK” button, surrounded on each side by directional symbols (each indicating something different). The upward arrow would indicate the “Page” button, below it would be the “Mark” button (to mark the position of the item), and beneath that an “Enter” button. On the other top side of the remote would be the “Go To” button, and beneath that would be the “Light” and “Quit” indication buttons.
- The rechargeable battery and it’s housing would be located on the back of the unit. A charging unit for the battery, similar in appearance to a cell phone wall charger, but designed for the Track-It, would also be included. In order to activate the unit, one would simply press and hold the light button to turnon and off. Aesthetically, the unit could come in various colors and finishes. Also, should the consumer fear losing the unit itself, the Track-It would feature it’s own paging system that emits a high pitched sound so the consumer can locate its whereabouts and retrieve it.
Advantages and Benefits
Fruitless searches for items lost are all too common. Amazingly, we often repeat the same silly mistakes every day, (like not putting our keys in a specific location) and find ourselves repeating the search on a daily basis. Rather than waste time in pursuit of the item in need, pressing the corresponding button for that item on the remote will direct you right to the item. Time is saved, and frustration is averted.
- Parents of young children have most likely experienced an episode where their young one has hidden something needed. Experiences like this could very well be a thing of the past with use of the Track-It. What’s more, things of true importance beyond material value (such as a beloved pet) can be tagged and tracked with the purchase of this product invention. Additionally, the Track-It could be used to locate one’s car in a parking lot, their teen child— at an amusement park, or their briefcase— at work or home. The possibilities are virtually endless on what can be tracked and found. And with the purchase of additional chips, more objects could be located, as it would be simple to program, as well as easy to access.
- The Track-It would fill the perennial need to help people keep track of their belongings. Saving time, money and worry, as well as being affordably priced and durably constructed, this portable handheld device is sure to meet a wide enthusiastic market.
