A few years ago, a public transit concept from China was making the rounds.  It has resurfaced recently in a video that suggests someone is taking it seriously.

The Land Airbus is the width of two lanes of traffic, and carries passengers on a deck overhead. It’s supposed to be inexpensive and easy to retrofit over existing roads, without taking up any additional space, which is great. But the biggest problem that we see with this thing is that drivers will have to learn how to get used to being swallowed by a bus.
