A study released in 2013 says Boulder has more tech startups per capita than any U.S. metropolitan area. Second on the list was the Fort Collins-Loveland area, further demonstrating Colorado’s influence in the high-tech industry. Denver finished sixth. Colorado Springs was ranked ninth. Cheyenne, Wyo., just across the border, surprisingly landed in the 10th spot of the study released by the Engine and the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation.

Noting the presence of Boulder at the top of its list, the study notes that high-tech startups are becoming increasingly geographically diverse, while the opposite is true for new businesses across the economy generally.
