The startup community gave itself a high five in April when the JOBS Act was signed. Crowdfunding would enable startups to reach out to the whole world to get access to funding, not just a small cabal of investors living in a 20-mile radius of Menlo Park.

The “American Idol” finale hit a new low this week with nearly 22 million TV viewers tuning in to watch, down 31% from last year.
American homeowners who are underwater on their mortgages actually are only running a “paper loss.”
According to real estate site Zillow, nearly 16 million homeowners – not quite a third of people with mortgages – owe more on their home loans than their properties are worth.

Only 28% of men, compared with 49% of women, see gender bias as still prevalent in the workplace.
There hasn’t been much progress for women seeking top leadership roles in the workplace in the past decade. The percentages of women running large companies, or serving as managing partners of their law firms, or sitting on corporate boards have barely budged even though female graduates continue to pour out of colleges and professional schools.

UBS, the world’s biggest non-U.S. private bank, said in 2008 it would discontinue offshore accounts for U.S. citizens.
Some of the world’s largest wealth-management firms are wanting American millionaires to go away ahead of Washington’s implementation of the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act, known as Fatca, which seeks to prevent tax evasion by Americans with offshore accounts. HSBC, Deutsche Bank, Bank of Singapore and DBS Group all say they have turned away business.
