Powerwall is Tesla’s new idea for harnessing and storing green energy

Tesla_Powerwall

Powerwall will harness energy from renewable sources and make it available for household use or make it available on a distributed grid . The battery would store energy when demand is low and release it during peak periods when energy supplied by large power stations is expensive.

New breakthrough in solar technology by Australian researchers

solar

A new solar cell that is flexible and non-toxic, has been developed by researchers at Australia’s University of New South Wales. The new cells are also cheap to make and are the next step to zero-energy buildings.  Until now solar cells have been made from scarce and toxic materials.

New nanowire battery can survive thousands of charges

Sony_Lithium_battery-thumb-450x515
Batteries haven’t seen a technological leap in years, mainly due to the volatile chemicals they contain. The most effective one produced being the lithium ion cell. Even with experimentation of exotic compounds the new wave of batteries is still many years away. Recently new research in the area of nanowires – surfaces “thousands of times thinner than a human hair” could prove to mitigate the short lifespan of batteries without needing any new chemicals. Another step closer to a future where everything can be 3D printed

burgie

We’re heading for a future where we can start 3D print our own shoes and our own dinners, but so far the hype has not met the expectations. The technical challenge of consistently printing, quality, objects, in multiple colors and materials at once has been very difficult to overcome. But Stratasys, the largest 3D-printing company in the world, says its newest industrial printer does both, marking what it says is an “industry breakthrough.”

Want to Generate Power Out of Thin Air? Freevolt May Have the Answer

What you see pictured above may look unremarkable, but it has the potential to power a low energy device forever and at no cost.  If that sounds like a big deal, well… that’s because it is. Drayson Technologies today announced Freevolt, a system that harvests energy from radio frequency (RF) signals bouncing around in the ether and turns it into usable, “perpetual power.” Drayson isn’t exactly a household name, but the research and development company has a particular interest in energy, especially where all-electric racing is concerned. And now it’s developed the first commercial technology that literally creates electricity out of thin air.

Promising testing of Autodesk’s Project Escher makes 3D Printing for Massive Projects a likely future

3D-house-printer-Contour-Crafting-1

There are limitations to designing large scale parts when 3D printing. Detailed items take a long time to print, while small items are quick, but less detail. Autodesk has a solution that will decrease those limitations and revolutionize the industry with Project Escher.

Bill Gates to back waterless toilet that will revolutionize global sanitation

nano toilet

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation first challenged the world to design a sustainable and inexpensive toilet, researchers from Cranfield University may have a viable contender – the Nano Membrane Toilet. It was funded by the Gates Foundation in September 2012 for $710,000.

Scientists create ANNABELL, an artificial system capable of learning human language

language

One of the most impressive complex cognitive processes is the ability to learn and creatively use language. It’s those processes that continue to set humans apart from even the most advanced machines. However, a team of scientists has now created an artificial system of neurons that is capable of learning words, phrases and syntax with no prior programming, thereby sustaining a dialog using processes that resemble mental actions.
