Why first-born children are smarter

First-borns around the world, it turns out, have higher IQ’s.

According to a new study “those born earlier perform better in school” and, it’s because of the parents. Parents simply go easy on their later-born kids, according to data analyzed by economists V. Joseph Hotz and Juan Pantano, and as a result, first-born children tend to receive both the best parenting and the best grades.

Google Ideas announces new tools to access the internet from repressive countries

The New York City–based “think/do tank,” Google Ideas, is run by the Internet search giant, Google, and they are launching several new technologies designed to highlight hacker attacks around the world and help people in repressive regimes access the Internet. The new products, announced this week at the Google Ideas Summit in New York City, represent the most substantial offerings delivered by the three-year-old Google policy unit and could be a major boon to activists and reformers in the world’s most closed and repressive societies.

It’s as common to see older women in their sixties playing games in the subway as it is to see younger children playing games at the bus stop. Carbon-negative energy now a reality

In 2007, officials from Berkeley, California shut off the electricity to an artists space known as the Shipyard.
