It would have been awesome to have been an entrepreneur in 1985 when almost any dot com name you wanted was available. All words; short ones, cool ones. All you had to do was ask. It didn’t even cost anything to claim. This grand opportunity was true for years.

One reason there are significantly fewer women entrepreneurs than men entrepreneurs is because women often don’t think they are capable of launching their own businesses, according to a new report released by the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor 2012 Women’s Report.

The Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC), in partnership with the Canadian Venture Capital Association (CVCA) approved an official Start-Up Visa (SUV) pilot program for business class immigrants: the Start-Up Business class. The goal of the SUV program is to facilitate the immigration of a new type of immigrant entrepreneur to Canada with the potential to build innovative companies that compete on a global scale and create jobs for Canadians.

The first-to-invent patent system will be replaced with what is often called a first-inventor-to-file system for patent applications.

President Obama signed the America Invents Act (AIA) into law in September 2011. Under one of the most important provisions of the AIA, the longstanding first-to-invent patent system will be replaced with what is often called a first-inventor-to-file system for patent applications with an effective filing date of March 16, 2013 or later. In the run-up to next March, there is likely to be significant attention in the press – and plenty of misinformation – regarding how first-inventor-to-file works and how it will impact entrepreneurs.
