Baca Architects ‘amphibious’ home

An “amphibious” home has been granted full planning permission and is set to be built on the banks of the River Thames in Buckinghamshire. The residential home designed by Baca Architects is an architectural feat that overcomes the threat of flooding by becoming a “free-floating pontoon” during a flood situation. “In an extreme flood, a 1 in 100 year event, the house can rise over 2.5 meters [8.2 feet],” Richard Coutts, director of Baca Architects. As the topic for our Monday’s Startup Junkie Underground, the House (H.R. 2930) and Senate (S.1791) have proposed competing Bills on the topic of crowdfunding. It’s important, however, to know the differences between the two, because the devil is in the details. And, when it comes to H.R. 2930 and S.1791, the differences are pretty crucial. Not every day you come across a unique home that looks like a UFO.  And you certainly wouldn’t come across one that is built on top of a volcano.  But there is a curious dwelling located between Las Vegas and Los Angeles that is sitting atop a volcano.  To be precise, the home is located in Newberry Springs, CA on top of a volcanic cinder cone.
