Brainwashing soldiers

Blu, an Italian street artist, is no stranger to controversy. You may remember his mural at the MOCA that was taken down. It was in an area of downtown that neighbors a Veterans Affairs hospital and a war memorial to Japanese American soldiers, the provocative anti-war piece showed coffins draped with dollar bills instead of flags. The biggest concern about serving on a submarine for Ensign Peggy LeGrand is not spending weeks at a time in tight quarters with an entirely male crew. What  really worries her is the scrutiny that comes with breaking one of the last gender barriers in the U.S. military.

The U.S. military is developing these. innocent-looking devices that are actually some of the most sophisticated drones on the planet.   They resemble children’s toys that are left disgarded in closets around the world.  (Pics and video)

Lockheed Martin begins biomechanical testing of the ruggedized HULCTM exoskeleton at the U.S. Army Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center in Natick, Mass.  Based on feedback from soldiers, the testing is expected to help shape future requirements for the HULC .

Scientists are studying how squid and other cephalopods change color and pattern of their skin to blend in with their environment.

Octopuses, squid, and cuttlefish have the ability to instantaneously change the color and pattern of their skin to blend in with their surroundings.  This has caught the eye of the U.S. military and now its goal is a new generation of high-tech camouflage.

The light weight head mounted display couples high resolution imagery and an impressive 82.5 degree field of vision — previous devices offered a range of only 40 degrees. What’s more, it provides clearer peripheral vision, virtually non-existent halo effects, digital image enhancement, and night vision recording. 25% to 35% of wounded soldiers are addicted to drugs.

Medical officials estimate that 25% to 35% of about 10,000 ailing soldiers assigned to special wounded-care companies or battalions are addicted or dependent on drugs — particularly prescription narcotic pain relievers, according to an Army inspector general’s report made public Tuesday.
