The technology still has a long way to go despite progress in 2018. The EU, U.S. and China are all determined not to be left behind.

It’s been another year of relentless artificial-intelligence hype and incremental AI achievement. Machines still beat humans only in carefully constructed environments or at narrow tasks. The good news is that, as the technology progresses, the race for leadership is still wide open, and even Europe, where politicians fret that the continent is lagging behind China and the U.S., is still quite competitive.

Despite the increasing role of private companies in space exploration, most believe NASA’s role is still vital for future.

Sixty years after the founding of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), most Americans believe the United States should be at the forefront of global leadership in space exploration. Majorities say the International Space Station has been a good investment for the country and that, on balance, NASA is still vital to the future of U.S. space exploration even as private space companies emerge as increasingly important players.

This material is very rare on earth, but is thought to be in abundant supply on the Moon. Due to its scarcity, it is typically manufactured instead of recovered from natural deposits. Mining is just one of the factors behind the establishment of a potential moon base, as it could also provide the framework for industries considered as being harmful to the Earth’s environment and eco-system.
