Smell Like A Nerd: RPG Performance Perfumes

Don’t you wish you could smell like me?

Yesterday we told you about blood type perfumes. Today we have something even wackier. Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab is selling a line of RPG-inspired perfumes intended to invoke the mythical races of elves, dwarves, half-elves, hobbits and orcs, as well as the distinctive aromas of clerics, fighters, mages, paladins and such. I totally guessed that paladins smelled like vanilla and “evil” smelled of “Smouldering opium tar, tobacco absolute, green tea, black plum, kush, ambergris accord, ambrette seed, and costus root…”

We’re coming one step closer to smell-o-vision, and that’s great news for meat-eaters. Actually, the more I think about it, I’m not so sure it’s great news for anybody.

A new Billboard on River Highway in North Carolina not only shows a gigantic piece of steak on an even more giant fork, but it actually pumps out the smell of steak for passing drivers to suffer through.

The Stinkiest Fuel on Earth

 The Stinkiest Fuel on Earth

Powerful odors are still power

Will Brinton, the founder of Woods End Laboratories, a bioenergy consultancy, predicts a future without landfills. Instead we’ll use table scraps and sewage to power our homes. Just dump the waste into a household digester, and bacteria will break it down and release the natural gas methane. (Chart)

The Infamous Rose-Scented Stamp of Bhutan.

In the past few decades, in order to raise revenue, postal administration of various countries have issued a growing number of …. scented stamps!

As far as how the stamp above evolved, “The tiny nation of Bhutan, located between India and China, is a economically underdeveloped nation. The people of Bhutan are very content, and its a safe bet that the nation’s postal system only adds to their happiness by the fun variety of stamps that they offer.”

“Hey Jane, it smells like your boyfriend again!”

In terms of the human senses, (sight, sound, touch, smell and taste) we’ve already been able to synthesize pretty realistic visual, audio, and touch digitally, and we’ve previously written about research work in the taste area. Now a German syndicate has filed a patent for applications allowing users to send scents via cell phones, and expects the new capability will reach market less than two years from now with about 100 different prefabricated scents on the required chip.

The Seven Smelliest Creatures in the World

Skunk

Some animals use a bad smell for defense; others find it attractive in each other. Environmental Graffiti has seven of the most vile. Believe it or not, the skunk came in at only #3!

There are 11 species of skunk, two in Asia and nine in the Americas. All of them have the ability to spray a foul smelling chemical when threatened. The famous skunk spray is a mix of sulphuric chemicals, and skunks can spray accurately up to 15 feet. The stench is so powerful the skunk almost every animal leaves it alone, the sole exception being the Great Horned Owl which has almost no sense of smell.
