Too much passenger screening is making airports less secure

Stricter security measures n U.S. airports is making air travel less safe.

Ever stricter security measures in place in U.S. airports is making air travel less safe and airports more vulnerable, according to University of Illinois mathematics professor Sheldon H. Jacobson. The reason is too many resources are spent screening passengers who pose little risk, which steals time and money away from identifying real threats.

Non-resident visitors to the United States wait in line at immigration control at a U.S. airport.

Businesses salivate over the kind of foreign traveler Agustina Ocamp is.  He is a  22-year-old Argentine who recently dropped more than $5,000 on food, hotels and clothes in Las Vegas during a trip that also took her to Seattle’s Space Needle, Disneyland and the San Diego Zoo. But she doubts she will return soon.

You “earn’’ your frequent-flier miles through travel or spending. They are held in “your’’ account; you think of them as cash in a bank account. You spend them as you see fit. They are your asset, and airlines record your future award travel as a liability on their books.

Mumbai to Delhi train travel time could be cut to only 7 hours

At present the train travel time from Mumbai to Delhi runs 16 hours.

Train travel time between the national and the commercial capitals of India could soon come down by at least half to only seven hours.  The infrastructure for the Golden Rail Corridor, which will have trains running at semihigh speed (160-200 kmph) between New Delhi and Mumbai, is likely to cost around Rs 5,000 crore, according to railway officials.  They say the cost is relatively low as the railways will not have to acquire land for the project.

New Airport Scanning Technology Will Electronically Scan and Sniff Passengers

The screening system will filter passengers according to risk and scan and ’sniff’ them as they walk through it.

A new and highly sophisticated airport security check system is planned to be launched by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).  The screening system will probably redefine the future of pre-flight security check conventions.
