Scholarly articles in digital forms overtook printed ones, but survey suggests increase in reading may have reached a peak.
A 35-year trend of researchers reading ever more scholarly papers seems to be leveling off. In 2012, US scientists and social scientists estimated that they read, on average, 22 scholarly articles per month (or 264 per year). That is, statistically, not different from what they reported in an identical survey last conducted in 2005. It is the first time since the reading-habit questionnaire began in 1977 that manuscript consumption has not increased.

San Francisco is where Uber and Lyft got their starts and resistance to these services seems futile. One third of taxi cab drivers in San Francisco have ditched their registered cabs and are now working for Uber, Lyft, or Sidecar, according to Fortune.
The U.S. isn’t even in the top 10 of coffee consumption.
America might be famous for running on coffee, but compared to a handful of other countries, it doesn’t run on much. When it comes to actual coffee consumption per person, the US doesn’t even crack the top 15.

Pinterest has experienced strong growth among women in particular.
According to a new Pew Research study, Pinterest’s popularity in the United States has surged in the last year, particularly among women. Pinterest is now used by more than one-fifth (21%) of American adults, up from 15% a year earlier, according to a survey of U.S. social networking habits from Pew Research. That puts the social bookmarking service slightly ahead of Twitter and Instagram, though all three are well behind Facebook.

A new PayPal survey has revealed that 11% of consumers do their online shopping while they are completely in the nude. The poll sampled 4,524 consumers between the ages of 16 and 64 to learn more about their holiday shopping habits leading up to this Christmas season.
