A poll shows the plain truth: The youth of today is much more willing to get behind the wheel (but not use the wheel) of a driverless car than any other age group.

In a poll featured on Statista and conducted by iAccenture and Harris Interactive of 21,000 respondents ages 14 and up, people were asked if they were willing to be passengers in a so-called self-driving vehicle—a.k.a. an autonomous car.

The Why Axis BugYou may be shocked to know that the youngest segment, ages 14 to 18 (“Gen Z”), were all about it, with 71 percent proclaiming their willingness to let the vehicle take the lead for them. On the other end of the age spectrum, Baby Boomers over age 55 were far less inclined, with only 37 percent considering the option. To be honest, that number is a lot higher than I expected; I’d guess it gets lower as the Boomer’s age increases.

The middle ground ages of 18 to 34 (“Millennials”) and 35 to 54 (“Gen X”) were, naturally, in between, at 61 and 53 percent, respectively. Still, that’s about half of all respondents essentially ready to put their commute, and their lives, into the hands of autonomous vehicles. Plan your future Uber and Lyft rides accordingly.
