Fantastic Ways To Recycle Tires

tire shorts image-8

A pair of woman’s shorts, made predominantly from tyres by – unsurprisingly given the logo – Michelin.

Each year – and this is in Britain alone – they apparently throw away approximately 500’000 tonnes of tyres; as such, and due in part to their incredible durability, the disposal of disused tyres is seen as one of the largest waste problems in the world. Below are several examples of tire recycling that really capture the imagination, and serve to remind us that the trusty tyre is actually an incredibly versatile object that can, with a little imagination, be transformed into a wide range of different products…

“It`s good for everyone to understand that they are to love their enemies, simply because your enemies show you things about yourself you need to change. So in actuality enemies are friends in reverse.” – – Gary Busey

20 Creative Billboard Ads

 billboard-ads-8

Special Poster for “Oldtimer”, a big Austrian chain for motorway rest stops.
(Advertising Agency: Demner, Merlicek & Bergmann, Vienna, Austria)

Adertisers want to catch a person’s attention and create a memorable impression.   Billboard advertisements do just that.  They leave the reader thinking about the advertisement after they have driven past it.  They need to be readable in a very short time because they are usually read while being passed at high speeds.  Usually they have only a few words in large print and are humorous or have arresting images in brilliant color.  (Pics)

Wright spent over a year experimenting with different combinations of chemical compounds, hoping to produce a synthetic, “hard rubber” silicone that could withstand the high heat of jet engines or the freezing cold of nights on Navy ships…

Death of Cursive Handwriting: Will It Make Historical Documents Indecipherable?

Cursiven 1608

Cursive Handwriting from 1608 is very different from that of today.

The drumbeat of lamentation of how cursive handwriting is dying continues (It seems like every year we have a poston the death knell of cursive, so why should 2011 be any different?)
Young people rarely use cursive anymore, and that may be fine for their daily communication needs, but consider this report by Katie Zezima for The New York Times: the death of cursive also means that a growing number of historical documents will become indecipherable to them…

I have no idea if these 2D glasses — which purport to convert 3D movies to 2D — work, but they’d be a godsend for me if they did. I get wicked headaches from 3D movies, and all the blockbusters in town are showing 3D-only half the time. We’ve switched date-night to art-house movies and live theater, which are great, but sometimes my wife really, really wants to see robots blowing stuff up and I hate to be a stick in the mud…
