Jobs in the U.S. with the lowest (and highest) unemployment rates

Unemployment rate for petroleum engineers is .06%.

Petroleum engineers, detective supervisors, and animal breeders all have one thing in common.  They are  extremely employable. They’re among the occupations with the lowest jobless rates over the last two years along with dentists and nuclear engineers, according to the Wall Street Journal’s study of data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Most smartphone and tablet users don’t care if they run iOS, Android, or Windows

The survey found there is no widespread loyalty among consumers about operating systems.

Google and Apple better watch out.  According to a new study by Accenture,  two-thirds of smartphone and tablet owners don’t have strong brand loyalty to any one particular operating system.

TV still king in media consumption: Nielsen

Here is one more 2012 year-in review report from Nielsen, which examined how Americans have been consuming content over the course of the past year.  Of the 289 million U.S. TV owners, the report found that 119 million own four or more television sets, making TV still the device to beat when it comes to watching and recording programs, among other things.

The ‘sharing economy’ is the next big thing

The Avis acquisition of Zipcar suggests that the sharing economy has come of age.

Revolution made their first bet on the concept of sharing nearly 10 years ago with their investments in Exclusive Resorts (2003) and Flexcar (2005).   The “sharing economy” now extends across multiple verticals – we’re sharing cars, movies, extra rooms in our homes, online lectures, and even our time.  Yesterday Avis Budget Group announced that they will acquire Zipcar which marks a significant milestone for the concept of collaborative consumption.

Wired magazine brings in 50% of its ad revenue from the web

The 50 percent digital revenue share also didn’t come as a result of a decline in print advertising sales.

One of the first big magazines devoted to technology and the internet is Wired.  Half of Wired magazine’s ad revenue was generated from the internet in Q4 2012.  This is a first for the magazine.

75% of world leaders are now on Twitter

Digital Policy Council (DPC) has a new survey that shows 75 percent of the world’s heads of state have a presence on Twitter.  A total of 164 countries were evaluated by the DPC study, and it found this year that 123 of them have a head of state that is on Twitter, either with a personal handle or an official government one. That’s up significantly from 2011, when 69 out of the 164 countries had a Twitter presence.
