One Important Way To Think About Your Job

As we are entering the third Industrial Revolution, more and more of our jobs will be replaced by robots and algorithms. Some estimates claim that 5 million jobs or more will be lost to machines by 2020.

And it’s not science fiction or paranoia; as advances in big data, deep learning, robotics, and artificial intelligence increase exponentially, so does the number and variety of jobs that machines will be able to do — not just well, but better.

Spaceflight startup Ripple Aerospace want to launch rockets from the ocean

In the constant search for low-cost spaceflight, Norwegian startup Ripple Aerospace has come up with a unique solution: How about we just get rid of, like, the land? Their plan calls for reusable cargo rockets to be built in shipyards, transported to open ocean, and launched from the sea, without so much as a floating launch pad to get in the way of the rocket’s journey from ocean to space.

Google’s Ray Kurzweil: The Business Of Extending Human Life Going Into “High Gear”

The futurist says that we’re getting closer and closer to “reprogramming” the human body.

Over the last many centuries, human life expectancy has very gradually lengthened with improved health and medical technologies and research. In the next 20 years, we can expect our expected life spans to be extended at a far more rapid pace than in the past.

The Construction Industry Loves Drones

The thinking: Spend billions of dollars, save even more.

The $8.5 trillion global construction industry isn’t exactly known for its efficiency. The U.K. Green Building Council estimates that 15% of materials delivered to construction sites end up in landfills, the result of mismanaged scheduling and purchasing.

By 2040 Robots ‘will commit more crime than humans’

Researchers have warned that robots and computers will pursue more criminal activities than humans by 2040.

Tracey Follows from The Future Laboratory, which helps businesses plan for the future, said: “Once robots can be hacked to become suicide-bombing machines, lone-robot attacks could become rife.”

A robot could be the best boss you’ve ever had

2047

Would you like to work for a robot? Although the automation of skilled jobs is a reality, your boss is probably (still) a human. Even though the most optimistic artificial intelligence (AI) enthusiast would struggle to persuade us that the technology to create non-human leaders is upon us just yet, robots could be managing people in the decades to come. So would a robot leader be much worse than your current boss?

Machines might replace humans—and might not

Robots-Thumbnail-1536x1536-300_Standard

The technical potential for automation differs dramatically across sectors and activities.

As automation technologies such as machine learning and robotics play an increasingly great role in everyday life, their potential effect on the workplace has, unsurprisingly, become a major focus of research and public concern. The discussion tends toward a Manichean guessing game: which jobs will or won’t be replaced by machines?

chinachildren

Birth controls still exist in China: The one-child policy was replaced by a two-child policy.
