The world is on the brink of a new industrial revolution in which advances in the field of artificial intelligence will obsolete human labor, according to many economists and technologists today. Two Oxford researchers recently analyzed the skills required for more than 700 different occupations to determine how many of them would be susceptible to automation in the near future, and the news was not good: They concluded that machines are likely to take over 47 percent of today’s jobs within a few decades.

Intelligent failure will invent the future

vetruvian-split

Vinod Khosla: The world is changing at an increasingly rapid pace. In the past, experts with spreadsheets and econometric models or social scientists with subscale studies and linear models may have been useful. These so-called experts extrapolated from what came before, but as the rate of change has increased, looking to the past often is no longer meaningful – especially in a world driven by new technology.

Scientists Determine That Goldfish Can Feel Pain

Scientists Determine That Goldfish Can Feel Pain

It is a question that has puzzled scientists – and anglers – for generations, but now a team of researchers claims to have demonstrated that fish do feel pain.

Whilst the creatures can clearly be seen to react to a jab or blow, experts have disagreed over whether the reaction indicates a sensation of pain, or is little more than a basic reflex.

Intelligent Bridge Monitoring System To Prevent Tragedies

Intelligent Bridge Monitoring System To Prevent Tragedies

Smart bridges will know when they are in trouble

From mundane traffic overpasses to marvelous feats of soaring engineering, bridges are something we tend to take for granted – until something goes wrong that is. A team from the University of Michigan is leading a five-year, $19 million project to engineer an intelligent infrastructure monitoring system designed to prevent tragedies like the collapse of the Interstate 35 West bridge over the Mississippi river in 2007 in which 13 people were killed and 145 were injured.

Featured Invention at the Colorado Inventor Showcase

Perhaps you’ve see the blinky lights on bicycles that make them safer and more noticeable at night. We took that to a new level, and way beyond. Imagine as a bicyclist decelerates by putting on the brakes, a bright brake light lights up just like on a car, but it isn’t wired to anything – just snapped to the bicycle seat post.
