Building a rope bridge with drones

Drones can get to areas that aren’t exactly safe or accessible by humans. That’s why watching quadrocopters assembling a rope bridge that’s sturdy enough for a person to walk across is so awesome. The video below was filmed at RTH Zurich Flying Machine Arena in Switzerland, and, according to the YouTube description, aside from the scaffolding on either side of the bridge, the structure is “entirely realized by flying machines.”  (Video)

A 3D printer that uses glass for ink

3D printed glass wow beautiful

A group of MIT scientists have recently 3D printed some spectacular glass creations. The glass sculptures were created by a group called Mediated Matter, led by Neri Oxman at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The color and transparency of the glass can be altered, as well as other properties such as how the glass reflects and refracts light.

The burning of fossil fuels and plastic waste are devastating to the planet.  3D printing has the opportunity to move away from non-toxic, non-petroleum-based plastics from the get-go and 3Dom is on a mission to produce environmentally friendly filament.  Their latest is called “Wound Up” and, to put the third ‘r’ in “reduce, reuse, and recycle”, the material is made from recycled coffee grounds.

Kuniako Saito, a Japanese engineer, has just invented a new way to travel: A transporter called a “WalkCar” that’s small, light and apparently easy to use. The WalkCar is battery powered and is about the size of a laptop. And although it looks like it can’t hold much weight and is made from aluminum, it can apparently have as much as 265 lbs on board.
