QR Codes are being embraced by Fox Searchlight Studios.

Fox Searchlight is shunning traditional promotional opportunities for its upcoming film Martha Marcy May Marlene.
Instead, the studio is rolling out an elaborate QR code campaign for the movie, which hits theaters on October 21.

Rather than go the traditional route of releasing teasers and trailers, Fox Searchlight opted to go digital…

Sculpt 123D iPad app makes sculpting cool again

I can’t decide whether or not Michelangelo would roll over in his grave or jump for joy if he saw this app. Then again, Michelangelo would probably faint from seeing a light bulb, so who knows how he’d react to tablet applications. In any case, the Sculpt 123D iPad app from Autodesk looks like a really cool way get your hands dirty with an art form that the majority of us have no experience with: sculpting.

You start with a basic shape, like a car or a person, and then get to use different tools to “sculpt” that shape into what you’d like it to be. The app also has stamps that you can adjust and add to sculptures…

65,000 CDs hand-sewn together to create metallic ‘sea dunes’

Repurposed CDs given a whole new look.

French artist Elise Morin and architect Clémence Eliard hand sewed 65,000 old CDs and laid them out on inflatable mounds to create a sea of discs. The purpose? To “reveal the precious aspect of a small daily object.”

The art exhibit is called “Wastelandscape” and is located in Paris. The point is to transform the seemingly mundane objects that we take for granted into monumental “sculptures” as they reach the end of their life…

Blu, an Italian street artist, is no stranger to controversy. You may remember his mural at the MOCA that was taken down. It was in an area of downtown that neighbors a Veterans Affairs hospital and a war memorial to Japanese American soldiers, the provocative anti-war piece showed coffins draped with dollar bills instead of flags.
