A rescue drone that finds survivors by tracking their mobile phone signals

A mobile phone can be the device that saves you in an emergency, even if you aren’t able to make a call. The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne have developed a drone that can pinpoint the location of a mobile phone by picking up its Wi-Fi signal. (Video)

World’s first riot-control drone fires pepper spray and paintballs at protesters

South Africa-based Desert Wolf, the maker of a drone that fires pepper spray bullets, says it has received its first order for the machine. The company told the BBC it had secured the sale of 25 units to a mining company after showing off the tech at a trade show.

That’s why Urban Aeronautics, an Israeli startup, is developing an unmanned flying ambulance called the “AirMule” that combines the in-and-out agility of a helicopter with the ability to perform rescues in dense urban environments that are difficult to manuever through in a rotor-based vehicle. The flying machine that was inspired by a jellyfish

Leif Ristroph, an applied mathematician at New York University, wanted to build the “simplest possible” flying machine.  Ristroph glued together several tubes of carbon fiber to build this: a sphere with four wings attached to it that propels it as a jellyfish swims. (Video)
