7 companies working to make ‘flying cars’ a reality

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk may think flying cars are a bad idea, but several companies are working to make them a reality as early as next year.The vehicles these companies are working on aren’t the same from flying cars from “Back to the Future.” Rather, they are pursuing electric, vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft for shorter urban commutes.

Like the name suggests, these are vehicles that can take off without needing a runway.

The flying machine that was inspired by a jellyfish

Flying robotic jellyfish.

Leif Ristroph, an applied mathematician at New York University, wanted to build the “simplest possible” flying machine.  Ristroph glued together several tubes of carbon fiber to build this: a sphere with four wings attached to it that propels it as a jellyfish swims. (Video)

New Zealand Inventor Readies “Jetski For the Skies” That Could Revolutionize Aviation


The jetpack is expected to be commercially available in the next 18 months.

New Zealand inventor Glenn Martin aims to have his “jetski for the skies” on the market within 18 months.  He has created  a jetpack suitable for everyday use by ordinary people with no specialist pilot training. (video)

Air Force In Brazil To Record UFO Sightings

This is one of many options that could be seen.

Brazil’s government has ordered its air force to officially record any sighting of unidentified flying objects.

A government decree said all military and civilian pilots as well as air traffic controllers should register any UFO sightings with the national aerospace defence command.

The information will be stored in the national archives in Rio de Janeiro.

It will be made available to researchers, including those seeking evidence of extraterrestrial life…

The Inventor Of The Frisbee Has Died

Truly sad news, sports fans. The inventor of the Frisbee, Walter Frederick Morrison, has died at the age of 90 at his home in Utah. Aside from a plain ol’ ball, has there ever been a more universal toy?

The Frisbee, which is technically a brand name, was originally called the Pluto Putter, and was first released in 1948. Morrison sold the rights to the disc in 1957 to Wham-O.
