Being an ‘apple’ shape is no less healthy than being a ‘pear’, according to a new study that turns the long-held belief on its head.    Doctors have long thought that people with an ‘apple’ figure – a tendency to store fat around the belly rather than the hips – were at a higher risk of heart disease and stroke.

A Cup of Coffee a Day May Cut Risk of Stroke in Women by 25%

A morning caffeine fix might do more than perk you up – it could save your life.  Women who drink more than a cup of coffee a day can lower their risk of having a stroke by 25 per cent, research shows.

95% of the people surveyed reported using some type of electronic device within an hour of bedtime at least a few nights a week.

Americans aren’t getting enough sleep, and technology may be the culprit.

In the National Sleep Foundation’s 2011 Sleep in America poll, out today, 95% of the 1,508 people surveyed reported using some type of electronic device — such as a TV, computer, video game or cellphone — within an hour of bedtime at least a few nights a week.

Taking Ibuprofen Could Help Fight Off Parkinson’s Disease

Ibuprofen could reduce risk of Parkinson’s Disease.

Taking ibuprofen just two or three times a week could reduce the risk of developing Parkinson’s disease by a third, scientists have found.  Researchers discovered that adults who regularly take the painkiller are significantly less likely to go on to develop the debilitating condition.

Designer Drug Abuse Out of Control in Many Regions of the World

The problem of so-called “designer drugs” is running out of control in many regions of the world, the U.N. global drugs watchdog said Wednesday.  The International Narcotics Control Board (INCB) said detailed instructions for how to make designer drugs, which are slightly altered to bypass existing control systems, are often shared via the Internet.
