China expected to become a world leader in high speed rail while the U.S. stands by

High-speed rail (HSR) will connect not only cities, states and countries in the future, but also far-reaching continents. In about 15 to 20 years from now, one could travel seamlessly from London, UK to Beijing, China and even have a detour within the Gulf countries using the global high-speed rail network. In the next 15 years, while UK would have built its new HSR2 that covers 332 kilometers,  China will have completed over 25,631 kilometers of high speed track to seamlessly move people in its country.

Egypt experiences an average of 550 train crashes per year

82 percent of Egypt’s railway lines are less safe because they depend on mechanical signals.

In the wake of Monday’s deadly Badrashin train crash, which left 19 people dead and 117 injured, a Transportation Ministry report shows the country has experienced an average 550 train wrecks per year, including both serious and minor ones.

‘Track therapy’ – Indonesians risk lives in latest health craze

Indonesians lay across railroad tracks in the belief the current wil cure them of their illnesses.

Despite the danger and the efforts by authorities in Jakarta to halt the craze, Indonesians with illnesses have been lying down across railway lines in the mistaken belief that a low-voltage electric current in the tracks will cure them as it passes through their bodies. (pics and video)

Students from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette have designed a concept for an elevated and automated railway system that intends to do away with the congestions on roads. The ambition public transport system foreseeing driverless compartments zipping over the city streets could be a transportation mode of the future, if the project gets the required funding to be build into a working prototype anytime soon.

I think I perhaps found one of the craziest concept ideas that I have ever come across. Hitch a ride is a concept device which involves a belt and three vacuum suction cups. What Hitch does is allows you to take a running jump, backwards, at a car, van or anything else that moves and firmly stick your self to it to “Hitch a Ride”.
