On the internet there are only a few things bigger than Facebook, but YouTube, owned by Google, is one of them, and today the world’s top online video service marked its eight year anniversary by revealing that it is now seeing more than 100 hours of video uploaded every minute.

More ads, higher completion rates on longer online videos

Total video views among internet users in the US were up 23% year over year in Q4 2012.

The appetite of U.S. online video viewers appears far from satisfied. Research from video monetization firm FreeWheel shows that the total video views among internet users in the US were up 23% year over year in Q4 2012. That growth has paralleled an increase in video ad volume, which grew 47% over the same time period, according to FreeWheel. (FreeWheel’s data covers only rights-managed videos, and does not include user-generated content.)

There were about a dozen different motorists around that Russian city of Chelyabinsk who were able to capture video of the massive meteor that flew through the sky last Friday.  How was it possible that so many people videotaped the event?  Because almost everyone in Russia has a dash-mounted video camera in their car.
