Can twitter go from niche to mainstream in the US?

Twitter usage had risen from 8% of US internet users in fall 2010 to 13% in May 2011, a 62.5% increase in penetration according to an annoucement by the Pew Internet & American Life Project this month. Twitter usage does seem to be growing, but is a bump like that sizeable enough to take it from niche to mainstream?

A Seattle-based startup, ZionEyez, has created a pair of spy glasses that are capable of recording and sharing HD video discreetly. The Eyez video recording glasses come equipped with a 720p HD recording camera, microphone and 8 GB flash memory. The glasses have up to three hours of battery life and can share information tirelessly with both the Bluetooth and WiFi standards. (video)

Energy Poverty: India’s Best Kept Secret

If you have no electricity in your village, you are energy impoverished.

During a business luncheon with the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) in India for World Environment Day, there was a lot of talk of the steps to take to give India’s economy a green makeover and why it’s important to do so. The speeches by Minister Ramesh and UNEP Executive Director Achim Steiner were inspiring and made the idea of a green economy concrete and understandable. Something that befuddled me, however, was that there was no mention of energy poverty, or the electrification of rural villages on the agenda. Did I miss something?

Scientists Develop Pill to Mend Broken Heart

Researchers in Britain claim they may be just a decade away from perfecting a way to persuade the heart to rejuvenate – a process thought to be impossible just five years ago.  They have developed a pill that triggers the heart to repair itself after an attack and is a major step towards one of the “holy grails” of medical research.
