Under your feet is an information superhighway made of fungi

mycelleum

Mushroom bodies are made of a mass of thin thread called mycelium. Mycelium acts as an information superhighway that speeds up interaction, of a diverse population and plants. But just as our networks are not always safe, these fungi networks too have a dark side of plants using the networks to their advantage.

Robot 3D Printing Spiders Are Being Developed to Handle Large Scale Projects

siSpis

If two hands are better than one, then think of how much better it would be to have eight, especially when it comes to mass production. Engineers from electronics manufacturer Siemens have protyped a 3D-prinitng robot, that looks like a spider, and could be used to build car bodies and airplane fuselages. These robots could cut costs and speed up production on large scale projects.

Self driving cars will change how we use transportation

selfDrivingCar

Self driving cars will probably lead to steep decline in fossil fuels, personal ownership, and accidents. These vehicles will pick you up, drop you off, and go to wherever it’s needed next. In 2014 an estimated 2.926 billion miles were traveled. During that year 32,675 people lost their lives and many more were injured. Around $200 billion dollars in insurance claims, uncompensated losses, and damaged property were also reported.

Disney’s new patent for a 3D Printer could disrupt the industry

Disney3Dprinting

It’s not news the Disney is a force in the 3D printing industry, but now a new series of patents could disrupt the entire industry. The patents lay out a system that changes the whole process of 3D printing. Instead of the layer -by-layer, as is the current standard, the stereolithography-based system involves blasting volumetric image of light into a curing fluid or print chamber. The light on the target object creates a mirror image in the polymer, which reacts to the light and effectively sets in position. The rest of the fluid simply remains uncured and the newly formed object can be picked out of the chamber.

Gene therapy against human aging successful

genetic_engineering_gm_encyclopaedia

Elizabeth Parrish, CEO of Bioviva USA Inc, has undergone a gene therapy, created by her own company that has reversed 20 years of telomere shortening. This makes Parrish the first human to be successfully rejuvenated by gene therapy. Telomere score is calculated according to telomere length of white blood cells (T-lymphocytes). This result is based on the average T-lymphocyte telomere length compared to the American population at the same age range. The higher the telomere score, the “younger” the cells.
