The system works through social consensus, and each employee’s salary information is published in the company’s internal wiki.

There are pros and cons to the process, but ultimately it works, Smarkets CEO Jason Trost said.

Engineering and computer science majors have the best shot at landing a high-paying position in this tough job climate. The outlook for new grads is slightly better than 2012, according to data from a nonprofit group, the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), . For students that land a job, the average starting salary is $45,600 and salaries are 2.6 percent higher than in 2012.

American factories are hiring again, but they’re not hiring union members.

Factory workers had a good month in July in Anderson, Ind., where a Honda parts supplier announced plans to build a new plant and create up to 325 jobs.
