China’s long-awaited ‘straddling bus’ received its inaugural test run in Qinhuangdao, Hebei province this week.

The Transit Elevated Bus, to give it its official title, is designed to help combat gridlock by letting passengers soar over the tops of cars on the increasingly-congested roads of China’s major cities.

‘Neural Dust’ Could Monitor Your Brain Wirelessly

Science fiction that features wires connecting brains to computers might now be obsolete. Wireless powered implants, each smaller than a grain of rice, could serve as “neural dust” that can one day scan and stimulate brain cells. Such research could one day help lead to next-generation brain-machine interfaces for controlling prosthetics, exoskeletons and robots, as well as “electroceuticals” to treat disorders of the brain and body.

3D Printed Food: Coming To A Restaurant Near You

A company called byFlow has created a 3D printer that utilizes pastes of any variety to build food items in a few smooth movements of a wand. The limitations of flavor and design are only limited to the chef’s imagination.

Drones to start delivering blood and medicine in the US

A startup that uses drones to deliver medicine and blood to remote areas of Rwanda is launching a similar program in the US. California-based Zipline will bring its drone delivery program to rural and remote communities in Maryland, Nevada, and Washington, including some Native American reservations. Zipline will announce its expansion at a White House workshop on unpiloted aerial vehicles (UAVs) Tuesday morning.

‘Smart’ Thread Could Be a Game-Changer for Doctors

Scientists are working to take “wearable” technology to a whole new level. Or, more accurately, to new depths.

A group of Tufts University-led researchers recently announced that it created a first-of-its kind “smart” thread that can be sutured into human tissues. The goal? To collect data on tissue health, as well as monitor wounds or infections, all of which can be sent to a computer or phone.

AI program writes ‘perfect’ horror script, seeks crowdfunding

Artificial intelligence has evolved enough that it can now take care of daily chores, drive a car, function as a trusty shopping buddy, and… write a screenplay?

Impossible Things, an independent horror film project from Greenlight Essentials’ Jack Zhang, was reportedly produced (in part) by an augmented intelligence software tool which analyzes audience response data to help writers craft plot points that connect with viewer demand. The result is Impossible Things, a project billed by its creators as “the scariest and creepiest horror film out there.” The software co-wrote the film’s script.

Mobile phones hold a trove of personal information that can be valuable to law enforcement investigating serious crimes, but they are notoriously hard to get into without a passcode or the owner’s fingerprint.

Police in the US found a way around this difficulty by 3D printing a murder victim’s finger to gain access to their smartphone and hopefully find evidence that would lead to the perpetrator of the crime.

Disney Research has been on a serious roll with its 3D printing innovations and 3D printing patents. Fromhigh-res 3D printing processes, to replicating reflective properties onto 3D printed surfaces, to 3D printed wall-climbing robots, it seems as though Disney is looking to redefine how movie merchandise is made using 3D printing technology. But their latest study shows that they are also keen to bring 3D printing principles to other industries, for they have developed a new compiler that lets knitting machines behave like 3D printers and easily produce customized objects.
