Fastest consumer drone in the world records 4K video at 85 miles per hour

George Matus was 11 years old when he flew his first drone. “I was immediately hooked,” the young man tells me with a grin. By age 16 he was competing as a professional drone racer and acting as a test pilot for new aircraft. Now 18, he recently finished high school but decided to defer college, opting instead to pursue a fellowship offer from tech billionaire Peter Thiel.

Ridiculous Japanese robot hotel is serious business – really!

download

“My name is Yoshiyuki Kawazoe. This is my hotel.” The University of Tokyo’s associate professor of architecture gestures behind himself to a flat, two-story building that doesn’t really look like a hotel. “Two-hundred people were involved in making this happen,” he says. “Experts in environmental design, engineering, architecture, robotics and construction … it’s their hotel.” The “Hen-na Hotel” will go down in tourist guides as the robot hotel, but there’s more being invested in here than just talking robots: The minds behind it hope the facility will change the world of low-cost hotels — and save the world. (Well, at least a little.)

The longest, deepest rail tunnel on Earth just opened

t

After 17 years of construction, the Gotthard Base Tunnel has opened. It’s a 35-mile high-speed rail connection beneath the Swiss Alps and is now the longest transit tunnel in the world. You better believe that Hyperloop engineers are paying attention.

Harvard 3D laser printer prints metal structures mid-air by lasering nanoparticles

All futurists agree that consumer electronics of the future will be flexible, wearable and packed with sensors and antennas to perform a wide range of biomedical functions. This sound great, but unfortunately today’s production techniques are suitable for little more than flat, bulky and rigid devices.

3D printing in space and future space colonies

moonbase

With the major advances in 3D printing technology, companies are looking to take it past the bounds of earth and start 3D printing in space. Opportunities like asteroid mining, cheaper repair parts for orbiting equipment, and even building extraterrestrial bases are becoming increasingly likely.

Powerwall is Tesla’s new idea for harnessing and storing green energy

Tesla_Powerwall

Powerwall will harness energy from renewable sources and make it available for household use or make it available on a distributed grid . The battery would store energy when demand is low and release it during peak periods when energy supplied by large power stations is expensive.

New Guinness world record for longest hoverboard flight

hoverboard

Last year Canadian inventor Catalin Alexandru Duru set the record with 275.9 meters for longest hoverboard flight. This year he it was obliterated by Franky Zapata, who flew 2252 meters off the coast of Sausset-les-Pins in the south of France. Franky Zapata is a French jet ski champion who also invented Flyboard Air.

We are getting closer to traveling safely at 760 miles per hour using magnets

hyperloop one system

Using a “passive” levitating system, Hyperloop Transportation Technologies, has found a safe way to travel at 760 mph. The ultra-fast rail system is similar to the Maglev train in Asia, but should be cheaper to install and operate. The pod will also be able to charge automatically harnessing energy caused by breaking.
