The aspiring asteroid miners at Planetary Resources have struck pay dirt in Luxembourg, the tiny (but wealthy) European country positioning itself as an ally to commercial space. The country is directly investing €12 million, with another €13 million coming from public investment bank SNCI.

Somebody Is Learning How to Take Down the Internet

Over the past year or two, someone has been probing the defenses of the companies that run critical pieces of the Internet. These probes take the form of precisely calibrated attacks designed to determine exactly how well these companies can defend themselves, and what would be required to take them down. We don’t know who is doing this, but it feels like a large nation state. China or Russia would be my first guesses.

By the time we were done, I had half-jokingly asked him if Iowa could 3-D print a mountain range, a much-wanted perk here in the flatlands.

Student invents kitchen appliance for people with 1 arm – Genius!

 

Loren Lim is a student and an inventor. He designed an award-winning kitchen appliance, which helps people with one hand, as well as stroke victims, be more independent. He was inspired to create the product by his late uncle, who had suffered a stroke himself. Lim is now going to visit IKEA’s headquarters in Sweden to discuss manufacturing opportunities.

Drones to start delivering blood and medicine in the US

A startup that uses drones to deliver medicine and blood to remote areas of Rwanda is launching a similar program in the US. California-based Zipline will bring its drone delivery program to rural and remote communities in Maryland, Nevada, and Washington, including some Native American reservations. Zipline will announce its expansion at a White House workshop on unpiloted aerial vehicles (UAVs) Tuesday morning.
