1800 miles per hour: ultra fast charging tech moving far faster than anticipated

IMG_2914

Many who reject the option of an electric vehicle say that they’ll consider one only when EVs have the range for occasional long-distance drives and can recharge about as quickly as you can refill a car’s tank with gasoline. Well, that time is nearly here—a lot sooner than even many experts in charging technology anticipated. Will France actually be able to ban all gas and diesel vehicles by 2040?

The government of France announced plans to end the sale of gasoline and diesel vehicles by 2040, with ecology minister Nicolas Hulot unveiling a wide range of targets and initiatives timed to coincide with the G20 summit in Hamburg, Germany, last week. The announcement was made as a part of the country’s renewed commitment to the goals of the Paris Climate Accords, which were reaffirmed by 19 of the 20 countries gathered at the summit last week.

Ubitricity will start converting lampposts into EV charging stations

IMG_2779

Ubitricity is a company out of Germany and their plan to convert lampposts to EV charging stations is underway. Ubitricity is currently using London lampposts that have been previously converted to LED lighting to also charge commuter EV vehicles. EV owners simply need to purchase a custom charging cable from Ubitricity that contains a meter that will track the user’s power usage and charge them appropriately. Don’t expect to just walk on up and plug anything you want into the charging port as the custom charging cable is what activates the port. No custom charging cable, no juice.

A sleeper bus with pod-like rooms is coming to California

IMG_2773

The concept of the sleeper bus isn’t foreign to the seasoned traveler. We’ve endured them throughout a large portion of Southeast Asia, after all, and that’s just one small corner of the world. Now, however, the idea has come to California, resulting in a sleeper bus that takes passengers between San Francisco and Los Angeles overnight.

Self-driving doctor brings the doctor to you

aaaaaaa

Even those of us fortunate enough to have good health insurance will often put off seeing a doctor when we probably should. Often it’s simply a matter of logistics. We feel like we can’t take the time off work, or arrange transportation, or get childcare to make the trip.

But what if the doctor just comes you? In a self-driving car.

New “Instantly Rechargeable” Battery

instantly rechargable battery

Purdue researchers have developed technology for an “instantly rechargeable” battery that is affordable, environmentally friendly, and safe. Currently, electric vehicles need charging ports in convenient locations to be viable, but this battery technology would allow drivers of hybrid and electric vehicles to charge up much like drivers of conventional cars refill quickly and easily at gas stations.

Introducing Larry Page’s Kitty Hawk Flyer

The Kitty Hawk Flyer is a sort of a flying car except it’s not a car at all – it’s much more like a flying ATV, which is probably more legitimately all-terrain than most. Linguistics aside, it’s a very cool piece of tech that’s backed by Google co-founder Larry Page, and it’s already in the ‘working prototype’ phase of development.

All fossil-fuel vehicles will vanish in 8 years in twin ‘death spiral’ for big oil and big auto

Tony Seba

No more petrol or diesel cars, buses, or trucks will be sold anywhere in the world within eight years. The entire market for land transport will switch to electrification, leading to a collapse of oil prices and the demise of the petroleum industry as we have known it for a century.

This is the futuristic forecast by Stanford University economist Tony Seba. His report, with the deceptively bland title Rethinking Transportation 2020-2030, has gone viral in green circles and is causing spasms of anxiety in the established industries.
