You can now take phone calls with your finger like a secret agent

A startup called Innomdle Lab is developing a watch strap named Sgnl that will let you take calls by holding your finger to your ear.

The project is currently on Kickstarter, and has already amassed $211,000, blasting through its $50,000 goal in a matter of days.

Innomdle Lab is planning on shipping early-bird units sold on Kickstarter starting February 2017. The $99 early-bird option is already sold out, but there are still some early-bird packages still left starting at $109.

Google to offer free Wifi mobile calling in North America and Europe

Google is taking the next step in competing with mobile operators by extending its free Wifi alternative for voice and data “in the next few weeks”.

The service, called Wifi Assistant, will be available to all owners of Google Nexus phones in the US, Canada, Mexico, the UK and Nordic countries, said Google in a statement.

New 3D printed graphene super batteries will last a lifetime

Batteries are becoming more and more crucial in our lives every year. From our smartphones to our laptops, and increasingly even our cars, batteries make the world go round. The only problem is that today’s generation of lithium batteries are increasingly incapable of providing energy on a scale that we need – especially when it comes to the charges they hold and the time it takes to recharge them. But there is a solution on the horizon, and it is being made possible by a radical material shift. For scientists from Swinburne University in Melbourne, Australia, have developed a new battery (technically speaking a supercapacitor) made from 3D printed graphene, which can hold a larger charge of energy, is recharged in a matter of seconds and will last a lifetime.

Electric cars could eclipse fossil fuels by 2027

Electric power could be the dominant form of propulsion for all new cars sold in the UK as early as 2027, with more than 1.3 million electric cars registered each year, according to forecast analysis by Go Ultra Low, the government and industry-backed campaign.

This means that, according to Go Ultra Low, the UK is on target to meet a government forecast that all new cars and vans will be electrically-powered by 2040.
